Acupuncture Canada has a rich 40-year history, first as a charity then as a not-for-profit organization. It has always been a pre-eminent teaching institution and advocate for the benefits of acupuncture in healthcare.
The Acupuncture Foundation of Canada (AFC) was incorporated as a charity in Ontario on February 1, 1974 by seven medical doctors whose acupuncture training came from different parts of the world. AFC was the parent organization of the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (AFCI), which was federally incorporated as a not for profit educational organization in 1995. In 2014, AFCI rebranded as Acupuncture Canada.
